Our Adoption Day

Elina and I were both outdoor cats trying to survive on our own. We both had the same idea, to take shelter in a shed, however, we were both by ourselves. We had not met prior to being placed into a loving no-kill shelter to find our furever homes. Today, we will both share our experience of our adoption process.
One day at the shelter, the volunteers started placing my kennel mates and I in carriers to be taken to Petsmart. I didn’t know at the time where I would be going and that made me nervous. When I got to the store, I was curious by everything I saw. However, I wasn’t able to explore as I was quickly placed back inside a small kennel.

People passed by and looked at me and I would meow and greet them. As time passed, I fell asleep and when I awoke, I found a strange lady at my kennel. She greeted me and I got up to see her. I began playing with her by pawing outside of my gated kennel. She walked around the room looking for something and then left. I thought I wouldn’t see her again, however, she came back with the lady that volunteered at my shelter.
The volunteer opened the gate, lifted me out, and handed me to the strange lady. As I played with her and her partner, I found my personality coming out. After a while, other cats began to enter the room to play with me. Now looking back, I realize that this lady was trying to find me a sibling. I was having so much fun that the time passed so quickly. Before I knew it, I was being placed back into the kennel and was upset that our time had ended.
The lady began filling out paperwork with the volunteer and I didn’t know then that she was in the process of adopting me. Little did I know, that very next day, September 4th, 2017, I would be adopted into a loving family. However, little did they know that I was putting my best paw forward and not showing my ornery side.
Elina here to give you the scoop on my adoption day. I also went along with Spirit from the shelter to Petsmart. I didn’t know at the time that she and I would soon be sisters. The travel was rough as I hate car rides. When I got there, I hid in the back of the kennel and curled up into a ball. I did not want to interact with anyone. During my time there, I slept most of it.
During one of the days at Petsmart, I was awakened by the sound of my gate opening. When I looked up, one of the volunteers was reaching in to grab me to pick me up. I reacted by pushing my paws against the floor to try to backup. The only problem was, I was up against the wall and not moving. I let out a loud meow because I was terrified and just wanted to be left alone.
When I was taken out of the kennel, I was placed in the arms of a kind lady who cradled me. She led me to an enclosed room to meet another cat. I did not want anything to do with whatever was going on, so I tried to hide. Even though I was trying to get away, the lady worked on getting to know me.
Shortly after my encounter with my soon to be mom and sister, I was placed back in the kennel and hid in the corner. Finally, I felt safe once again. She began filling out papers with her partner and handed them in to the volunteer. I had no idea that I was going to be placed into a home that would take great care of me, and help me slowly feel comfortable being my introvert self.
To this day, Spirit and I are grateful to have found such a fun and loving home.
