My best friend Stuart
A few months ago, my mom brought a furry little mouse
home. At first, I wasn’t sure what to make of him. Why is he so still and quiet?
Why did we need another animal in the house? Aren’t Spirit and I enough? Of all
animals, why a mouse? Although these thoughts were running through my mind, my
mom handed him over to me entrusting me with him. I kept my distance for a few hours,
because I am very timid, but finally approached him. I didn’t know at that time
I was meeting my furry best friend.
When I found the courage to approach him, he remained still and quiet, not like other mice I have met. I could tell right away he was different. Since he was all alone in the house, I took him under my paw to show him the ropes around here. I found it my responsibility to take care of him and carry him everywhere I went. He was timid like me, and I wanted to help him out.

It didn’t take long for
us to become best friends. I would find myself taking time out of my day to
groom him and make sure he was well taken care of. I should point out; he is
fabulously fluffy just like me! It’s a difficult task, but someone has to help
the little guy out. I should also mention, I am a very nurturing cat, it’s just
my instincts.
Now, I know cats and mice
aren’t supposed to be friendly, but we get along so well. However, I can’t say
the same about Spirit and Stuart. Sometimes I find my sister swatting at him.
When I see this happen, I quickly intervene. I know her instinct is to attack
mice, but Stuart is different, he is my friend.
I’m here sharing this
story with you to help change the status quo between cats and mice. I hope you now
have a better understanding of my predicament here. Why do we have to be
against one another? I think we are both cute and furry and can live in
harmony.
